Lock away the apps, not the device.

Many a time, small and big businesses alike, need to prevent users from accessing all the Apps that are installed on the device. At the same time, the business needs to have some apps running on the background, without the user coming to know about it. In other words, a business may need to “hide“ some apps and “allow” some apps to run/start/stop according to the necessity.

AMGuard allows users businesses to “Kiosk” the device or allow one or more devices to run in the Kiosk mode for a variety of reasons. AMGuard offers kiosk mode in 2 different flavors:

  1. Single App Mode

  2. Multi App Mode

Single App Mode

In this mode, there is a single app which will be available and all other apps (including calling, google search and others which come by default in ALL google android phones) are hidden from the user. The user is able to access only the single app which is allowed and which is pinned to the screen. Depending on the AMGuard platform, the organization chooses, the phones/tablets may have a customizable notification bar. In most of the cases, the organizations have been able to save a minimum of 30% of data usage as there is no way to use the devices other than as intended by the device owners.

Multi App Mode

In this mode, a customizable skin is provided where the apps that the company wants its user to access is allowed. All other apps remain in the background and are not visible and hence inaccessible to the user.

Kiosk mode is useful in the following cases

  • In services industry, like restaurants, it becomes really important to have a realistic and accurate update to patrons on the availability of dishes and time it would take to serve, so that the patrons can make an informed choice while placing their orders

  • In the healthcare industry, monitoring of sick or elderly patients, through reminders, real-time data collection on a level of pain, medicine is taken and relief, automate refill procedures. AMGuard also provides mechanisms to connect to caregiver located remotely and guide patients appropriately.

  • In the Transportation industry - where the user needs to be exposed to a few apps namely location services (maps) and calls

Just because you have to hide most of the apps when you need to hand the devices out for business purposes, it does not mean that you cannot access the apps anymore. AMGuard allows you to turn off the locking mechanism and also to schedule when the Apps will not be hidden anymore so that you can access the apps as you want to. This again is controlled from the EMM console, which means that you can remotely control when the device with being “unlocked” so that the other apps can be accessed/upgraded etc.
